| Bidding begins on Maritime Park
Emmitt Smith, the NFL's all-time leading rusher, has some world-class competition in his bid to help build the Vince Whibbs Sr. Community Maritime Park in his hometown of Pensacola.Smith, a former Dallas Cowboy and Arizona Cardinal, is president, CEO and controlling partner in Smith/Cypress Partners LP, a development arm of The Staubach Company, a global real estate advisory firm launched by another former Cowboy giant, Roger Staubach.Smith's company has teamed up with Trinity Capital Advisors, a Pennsylvania commercial real-estate company, to seek the master developer position for the $70 million park to be located on 30 waterfront acres south of City Hall."With our experience, we can be both flexible and creative when structuring new deals," Smith stated on his company's Web site.Trinity Capital is one of six companies that answered the call of the Community Maritime Park Associates board for companies interested in becoming the master developer to oversee the public-private venture for a park, multiuse stadium, maritime museum and retail and office space.The company is up against heavyweight developers, including Atlanta-based Carter Real Estate and Hammes Company in Wisconsin, both of which have built major sports facilities and major mixed-use developments in other cities.Another interested contender, New Orleans developer Clifton C.
US Bids to Host 2007 FEI World Reining Masters
The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) has officially put in its bid to host the 2007 International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Reining Masters during its 2007 NRHA Futurity and Adequan North American Affiliate Championship Show. The NRHA Futurity will be held November 22 December 1, 2007, at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, OK. The NRHA and Oklahoma City hosted the inaugural FEI World Reining Masters in 2004 when reiners from 16 different countries competed for a purse of $100,000 and Gold medals in two divisions; Open and Restricted. The $100,000 FEI World Reining Masters is an annual competition to find the best individual reiner in the world. The competition is based on qualifying the best reiner from each nation for a final event which will alternate between the USA and Europe.

Top tourism awards invite online bids
APPLICATIONS for Scotland's top tourism awards are going online for the first time, making it easier and more environmentally friendly for businesses to enter. The Scottish Thistle Awards, which honour tourism firms, were launched this week at Scotland's biggest travel trade fair, VisitScotland's Expo in Edinburgh. VisitScotland chief executive Phillip Riddle said: "Online applications and judging will help us contribute to making Scotland a greener destination." There are ten categories this year and businesses can enter as many as are applicable to their individual achievements. The closing date for entries is June 7. The finalists will be announced in September, with the overall winners announced at an awards ceremony and dinner in October.
