Browne could lose his job over 'bidding frenzy' fiasco

London: Speculation is growing that Des Browne will lose his job as defence secretary when Gordon Brown takes over this summer.

His position worsened as the bodies of four soldiers killed last week in Iraq were flown back to Britain, striking a solemn contrast with the bidding frenzy sanctioned by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) when Faye Turney and the 14 other former Iranian captives came home.

The Chancellor is planning a sweeping reshuffle after Tony Blair quits office and MPs predicted that Browne would be moved to a less sensitive post.

Distanced

Blair distanced himself from the fiasco yesterday by saying he was not consulted on the decision. Sources said he found out from the newspapers - although some No 10 officials were aware of the situation at least a day earlier.

India may call bids for new Mumbai airport by year-end

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India expects to invite bids for a greenfield airport in Mumbai by the end of the year, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said on Monday.

"The land issues have been resolved. The government will now proceed for cabinet approval on bidding," Patel told reporters on the sidelines of the U.S.-India Aviation Partnership Summit.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport is to be built at a cost of 42.35 billion rupees on public-private partnership by forming a special purpose company.

The project is designed to ease congestion at Mumbai's existing airports, among the busiest in the country.

Maharashtra's City and Industrial Development Corp. and the state-run Airport Authority of India will hold equity to the extent of 26 percent and the rest will be held by a private developer.

City hears two bids for MSA site

Indianapolis - Two local development teams are eager to build on the old Market Square Arena site in downtown Indianapolis.

The city reopened the bidding process after a development team chosen three years ago failed to get the necessary financing in place. As a result the two, two-acre parcels have remained gravel parking lots since Market Square Arena was imploded nearly six years ago.

Wednesday afternoon, the Metropolitan Development Commission revealed the teams now vying for the project.

One is MarketAbility Partners, which includes Mansur Real Estate, Lauth Property Group, Hearthview Residential and Venture Real Estate. It proposes a $150 million mixed-use development including housing, office space, retail and a Target store.

Nude Photos Of Kate Moss Go To Auction

LONDON (April 16, 2007) -- Nude photographs of Kate Moss will be sold at an auction in London next month among a series of other pictures of the British supermodel.

The photos will be auctioned May 31, Christie's auctioneers said Monday.

Two nude portraits, a 1996 print by Irving Penn and a 6-by-6-foot square image by Albert Watson, are expected to sell for about $44,000 and $30,000 respectively, the auction house said.

A set of six prints of Moss without makeup, taken by Chuck Close, could sell for up to $40,000, Christie's said.

An unpublished photo, being sold by one of the 33-year-old's friends, is expected to sell for about $12,000. The portrait, taken by photographer Corinne Day in 1990, was shot in London two years after Moss was discovered at a New York airport at age 14.
