Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Holds Record-Breaking Auctions

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/09/07 -- Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers (TSX: RBA)(NYSE: RBA), the world's largest auctioneer of industrial equipment, announces the results of two large unreserved auctions held last week. The largest was a two-day auction in North East, Maryland, which saw buyers make purchases of over US$42 million in gross auction sales - beating the previous Company Maryland record of US$30 million. The other large auction held last week was the Company's grand opening auction in their new permanent auction facility in Denver, Colorado. Gross auction sales at that two-day auction were more than US$29 million, beating the previous Company Colorado record of US$22 million.

NORTH EAST, MARYLAND (April 4 & 5, 2007)

The two-day auction in North East, Maryland broke a number of Company records for that region, including the highest gross auction sales, the most registered bidders - both in-person and on the internet - the highest online gross auction sales, and the most auction lots sold.

Burlco eyes Web auctions

Burlington County plans to join other local governments in auctioning government surplus items on the Web.

The Burlington County Freeholders authorized its treasurer's office to sign an agreement with GovDeals Inc., which operates an Internet auction site called www.govdeals.com.

The freeholders said they will sell vehicles and office equipment to the public online to make more money, save time and attract more bidders.

Sharon Brauckmann, county purchasing agent, said the auction would be held later this year and not until the state Department of Community Affairs gives its approval. She said the state must approve a county application to waive the normal local public auction using an auctioneer.

Kurt Brock, the county's chief financial officer, said the state is approving Internet auctions of government property only on eBay and GovDeals.

Masonic Temple to hold auction

SPRINGFIELD - One man's closet full of vintage Masonic heavy wool waistcoats might be another man's treasure.

That is the hope of the Springfield Masonic Temple as it prepares for an auction of furnishings and other items, scheduled for today at 11 a.m. at the historic Masonic Building, 339 State St.

A preview was held yesterday and another was scheduled for today from 9 to 11 a.m.

The auction is needed because the association - attempting to sell the building and move to a smaller site - is unable to keep all the current belongings, said President Robert E. Karowski.

"It's very sad it has come to this," he said. "It's a very beautiful building, has a lot of history. We are keeping what we feel we need for the new building."

The new site has not been finalized yet and a potential buyer of the current building has not yet been able to secure funding, Masonic officials said.

Toll spin-off Asciano to look overseas

Toll Holdings Ltd's proposed infrastructure spin-off, Asciano Ltd, will be seeking opportunities overseas, the new managing director of Asciano, Mark Rowsthorn, said.

Mr Rowsthorn said Asciano was already part of a consortium bidding for a rail concession in the Middle East. He would not specify the country or give details.

Mr Rowsthorn told reporters that there was scope for Asciano to expand in the transport of bulk commodities via rail in Australia, and there were also opportunities on the wharves given considerable activity in the expansion of ports.

"We'll be participating in those," Mr Rowsthorn said.

"As time marches on, we've already identified a number of international acquisitions that we'll participate in as well.

"There is one particular one which isn't an acquisition - it's really part of a consortium bidding for a concession, a rail concession, in the Middle East.

Iran to seek bids for two new atomic power plants

TEHRAN - Iran said today it would seek bids in the next few days for two new nuclear power plants and will partly run them on fuel produced at home, a process the West fears could lead to material for building atomic bombs.

Ahmad Fayazbakhsh, an official at Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation, said the power plants would each have capacity for 1,000 to 1,600 MW and would be built at Bushehr, the southwest port city where Russians are building Iran's first atomic plant.

The West fears Iran's civilian nuclear programme is a smokescreen for atomic weapon ambitions, a charge Tehran denies.

A Western diplomat said the tender announcement appeared aimed at justifying Iran's statement it had expanded work to make atomic fuel in defiance of a UN demand to halt uranium enrichment, a process which can be used to make bombs.
